What would the changes mean for workers?

- BY STEVE WEBB EX-PENSIONS MINISTER

Q Will I not get the full pension I was promised?

A If these changes are made, you may not. At the moment, if you built up pension rights after 1997, your pension scheme has to provide an annual rise in line with inflation up to 2.5%. Now that could change and you could get less. Q Does this affect public sector workers?

A This is mainly an issue for private sector pension funds, with most currently not having resources to meet the promises made. In the public sector, the main scheme that could be affected is the Local Government Pension Scheme, where the pot is well short of that needed to pay the promised pensions. But with 5.1 million members, cutting the LGPS would be controversial. For nurses, teachers and civil servants, changes are unlikely.
