Wills: Brexit will not alter German link
PRINCE William promised Germany last night that Brexit will not end the “genuine friendship” between the two countries.
The 34-year-old royal arrived in Dusseldorf to attend events to mark the 70th anniversary of British armed forces based in the North Rhine-Westphalia.
He met German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the first time – and then said in a speech at a gala: “What began 70 years ago as a relationship of necessity, between an occupying power and a region in ruin, is today a partnership of genuine friendship and of massive mutual benefit.
“This partnership will continue despite Britain’s recent decision to leave the European Union. The depth of our friendship with Germany will not change.”
