-

A MAN who spent almost £300 cleaning up his neighbourhood faces action over health and safety issues.

David Render, 54, restored a sculpture after 28 years of neglect, led teams collecting rubbish and made a footpath usable again for kids.

The retired engineer, from Washington, Tyne and Wear, claims it is “madness” that he is accused of “trespass and criminal damage”.

But Sunderland Council’s Mark Speed told him cutting branches “puts the public in danger”, adding: “If you continue, action will be taken.”
