Visitor felled by scrumpy
Mum had a rare condition in tongue
A LONDONER visiting the West Country was arrested for drunkenness after underestimating the strength of local scrumpy.
Harry Palmer, 28, downed several pints at a cider farm in Somerset.
He then stumbled around a pub in Yeovil and became abusive when police arrived.
Palmer, of Ealing, West London, admitted being drunk and disorderly.
Magistrates fined him £50 plus costs.
Sam Morton, defending, said: “He had never drunk it before and got into a state.”
A FRUSTRATED mum struggled for years to get rid of her double chin, only to discover it was a rare tumour.
Natasha Walters was even ready to have plastic surgery after failing to shift it since the birth of her son George, now 15.
But a surgeon quickly realised it was not excess fat and told her to visit her GP.
Doctors discovered the mum of two had arteriovenous malformation in her tongue – a rare and potentially lethal tangling of blood vessels that caused the tumour mass.
Natasha, 45, said: “I first realised I’d developed a double chin after having my eldest son, George. It didn’t matter how often I exercised or lost weight, my chin wouldn’t budge. I decided to book a consultation with a plastic surgeon and that’s when I was told it wasn’t fatty tissue.
“It was a huge shock when I was diagnosed with a tongue AVM. I was told it was best to leave it untouched unless it started to suffocate me or that it bled.”
The Barclays worker, also mum to Charlie, 10, finally had the growth removed in March after it began to bleed. She has a scar and needs speech therapy, but Natasha, of Colchester, Essex, could not be happier.
She said: “For the first time in 15 years I feel confident again, but the best thing is that I do not feel sick and tired any more.”
