April Fools’ Viagra prank put the victim in hospital

- BY NICK IRVING

A SHOP manager spent 10 hours in hospital after being given Viagra as an April Fools’ Day joke.

Benjamin Chope, 24, bought 30 tablets on the internet and used them in homemade sweets, a court was told.

Manager Daniel Webber ate about three-quarters of one of them before being told it had Viagra.

He became so ill he was taken to hospital, Exeter crown court heard.

Chope, of Newton Abbot, Devon, admitted maliciously causing a poison to be taken and administering Sildenafil [Viagra]. Miss Caroline Bolt, prosecuting, said: “He did not target Mr Webber but thought it would be funny to give a manager erections at work.” Recorder Mr Philip Mott QC told him: “What a terrible April Fools’ joke. It went wrong in a big way.” Mr Webber said he “felt let down by the incident”. Chope, who was sacked, was ordered to do 80 hours’ unpaid work.
