BANGLADESH GO-AHEAD
CRICKET:
ENGLAND’S tour to Bangladesh in October has been given the green light – despite last month’s terrorist attack in Dhaka, where 20 hostages were killed in a cafe.
Test captain Alastair Cook (above) last night sped from Essex’s win at Leicester to London to join the squad preparing for tomorrow’s one-dayer with Pakistan as they were briefed by ECB security chief Reg Dickason.
Dickason has just returned from Bangladesh with ECB chief John Carr and David Leatherdale, from the Professional Cricketers’ Association.
Dickason has given the tour the thumbs up, and now it is up to the individuals if they want to travel – although ODI skipper Eoin Morgan has said it would not be held against any player who wants to opt out.
The ball is now in the players’ court – as it was in 2001 when Andy Caddick and Robert Croft did not tour India in the wake of the 9/11 atrocity.
