Hughes in phone jibe Pulis blast
Hughes accuses Pulis of phone jibe at Shawcross
at The Hawthorns last week which Albion won 1-0. Hughes (above) said: “We were annoyed with a number of things about that.
“I was annoyed with their manager ringing up Ryan on the Monday morning after the game and calling him a loser. I wasn’t too happy with that either, but hey-ho!
“But any number of things surrounding the game were unnecessary.”
Hughes was adamant that the alleged message from Pulis was not tongue-in-cheek and claimed he had not answered Shawcross when the defender tried to call back.
Asked if the ‘loser’ remark had been made in jest, Hughes said: “What do you think? I don’t think so.
“There was a voicemail left, and I haven’t heard it. Ryan wasn’t too pleased about it and tried to call back. But he didn’t get any answer.”
Pulis confirmed missed calls from Shawcross, whom he has previously hailed as one of his best-ever signings.
“Ryan has tried to ring me since that and I will get back to him,” said the West Brom boss. “Charlie Adam, not at all, that makes no difference to me! I think people know the facts. It was a sideshow to the game.”
After Stoke’s defeat, Hughes, Shawcross and Adam pointed the finger at the Baggies for the leak.
TONY PULIS branded Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross “a loser” in an amazing voicemail message.
That’s the claim made by Stoke boss Mark Hughes as he reignited his row with West Brom over Saido Berahino’s recent transfer. Hughes claims West Brom manager Pulis left a voicemail for Shawcross (above), hitting back at the defender’s claim that the Baggies leaked news of Berahino’s drug ban. The warring Welshmen are refusing to let the dispute die after failing to shake hands before or after their game
