KIGHTLY’S FLYING AT BREWERS

-

NIGEL CLOUGH’S ‘loan rangers’ are hell-bent on keeping Burton in the Championship for at least another season.

Cauley Woodrow and Michael Kightly, January loan signings by boss Clough (below), were the scorers in a second successive home win to further lift Albion’s survival hopes.

As they did against Wolves, Woodrow and Kightly (above) found the net to put the brakes on Norwich’s charge towards the play-off places, while fellow loanee Lasse Vigen Christensen also played a key role.

“All the lads who’ve come in, we’re so passionate about this football club staying up,” said Fulham striker Woodrow, who set up Kightly’s winner.

“We don’t just care about ourselves, we want to help Burton. It would be another massive thing because the club have achieved so much to get here.

“We’ve linked up well since we’ve come in, so hopefully we can keep that going. The lads are buzzing because this was a great win at the start of a big week.”

Woodrow singled out Kightly as an inspirational figure after the winger enjoyed a much happier day than his Burnley team-mates in the FA Cup. He said: “Michael’s played for England Under-21s and in the Premier League for quite a few years, a very clever footballer.”

Steven Whittaker, whose wayward shot inadvertently set up Cameron Jerome to put the Canaries briefly level, believes Norwich have the perfect chance to get their play-off push back on track on Sunday.

They host Ipswich in the East Anglia derby and he said: “It’s a huge game, hopefully one in which a win would be a massive boost in starting another run. It will be difficult, but we still believe we’ve the squad to go on great runs.”
