DANGER OF DRINKING

-

# For the price of a packet of cigarettes, a fatal quantity of alcohol can be openly purchased in shops with little or no warning as to its dangers.

Tobacco consumption has been considerably reduced through high taxation and a Government health warning on every packet, coupled with smoking being banned in many public places.

Now attention badly needs to be drawn towards the dangers of drinking.

This is particularly the case when it comes to cheap stronger brews. Brian Davies Bury St Edmunds Suffolk # As much as I’m delighted for Beverley Doran on her EuroMillions win (Mirror, February 23), surely the £320 a week she was getting on benefits was meant to feed, clothe and house her family?

Therefore spending £25 on lottery tickets is surely excessive. Perhaps the benefit payments are too high? Diane Cheesman, Bicester # I take it the boss of British Gas, Iain Conn, is living on the same planet as the rest of us when he said his deals were “good value” (Mirror, February 24)?

Who in their right mind wants to pay an extra £210 a year for gas when they could be spending the money on something like feeding their kids maybe?

What an arrogant man. K McKean Norwich # The Moorside was a powerful drama about the hunt for schoolgirl Shannon Matthews, with a strong cast headed by Sheridan Smith. Well done to all involved. Peter Singer, Leeds
