HERO HEF MINDS HIS LANGUAGE

- BY LINDSAY SUTTON

MICHAEL HEFELE netted another crucial Yorkshire derby goal for Huddersfield – but this time he cut out the swearing.

The big German defender (above) power-headed home against the Tykes from a perfect corner from Aaron Mooy, with just 18 minutes on the clock.

Not quite the last-gasp winner he scored against Yorkshire rivals Leeds recently – and not quite the fruity language he used later to describe his joy.

Hefele said live on camera: “It’s a f ***** g dream,” then repeated the phrase to reporters. Naturally, Town fans treat ‘The Hef’ as a comical celebrity, and have turned his words into a terrace chant.

At Barnsley, though the Terriers’ 4,600-strong travelling army of fans were in full voice, Hefele preferred to forget the past, and kept his language clean.

He admitted he’s now looking forward to Wednesday’s FA Cup replay at Manchester City, and then the crucial home league game against fellow promotion seekers Newcastle United.

So, which match is more important? “That’s easy,” said The Hef. “Championship games are the most important all the time.”

Town’s promotion push took a knock when Barnsley’s Marley Watkins volleyed home a cross from substitute Adam Hammill in the 75th minute.

Hefele added: “We should have had three points with the chances we had. But that’s in the past now because we have those big games coming up.

“We still have our unbeaten run of eight games and we know we can deal with aggressive play.”

Town would have chalked up their seventh successive league victory but for Barnsley keeper Adam Davies (circle), who kept out fierce efforts from Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown and then from Mooy. MOTM DAVIES (BARNSLEY)
