SAVE OUR ZLATAN
Jose urges fans to camp outside’ Wembley hero Ibra’s house in bid to make him stay on at United
JOSE MOURINHO hailed EFL Cup hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic – then urged Manchester United fans to camp outside his house to make him stay one more year.
The charismatic striker scored twice, including a dramatic 87th-minute winner, to hand Mourinho his first trophy as United boss.
The late goal was cruel on Southampton, who came from 2-0 down to draw level, only to see the Swede deny them late on. Ibrahimovic has scored
26 goals in his debut campaign in England and Mourinho called on United fans to go to the forward’s house and make him sign up for next season. The 35-year-old has been stalling on signing a one-year contract extension and Mourinho said: “I never bank for a player to sign a contract. “I never bank for a player to play for me. One day Zlatan decided to go to Barcelona and I was very sad and did nothing to try to stop him to go. So I don’t bank for players. “But, if needed, I think maybe United fans can go to the door of his house and stay there all night. If needed, I think they will go for sure. “We all want and all believe that he’s going to stay with us one
more season. He won the game for us because he was outstanding.
“He made the difference and he gave us the cup.”
Ibrahimovic, whose goals bagged him the 32nd trophy of his 17-year career, said the older he gets the more he appreciates winning silverware.
“This is what I came for – to win – and I’m winning,” he said. “Wherever I’ve gone, I’ve won, and the more I win, the more satisfied I get.
“You appreciate it more the older you get and I keep on doing it. The more mature I get, the more I understood it’s all about winning, all about collecting these trophies.
“I think this was my 32nd trophy and I’m super happy.”
Zlatan gave United the lead with a free-kick, with Jesse Lingard doubling their advantage. Southampton came back with goals from Manolo Gabbiadini, before Ibrahimovic had the final say.
Mourinho joined Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough as the only manager to win the League Cup four times and added: “I’m a bit emotional, yes. It’s not easy to win titles.”
