Have they found Moors Murderer Brady’s shotgun?

Killer’s cache claim as weapon dug up

MOORS Murderer Ian Brady has hinted a gun found near a possible burial site of one of his victims may be his.

The child killer, 79, claimed he had an arsenal of guns during his murder spree and police did not find them all.

It came after a group looking for the remains of Keith Bennett, 12, found an Eibar double-barrelled weapon.

Brady bragged: “Shotgun? I had two shotguns, two revolvers, two rifles and an automatic, strategically placed. The police only got the revolvers and one rifle”.

Schoolboy Keith is the only one of Brady and Myra Hindley’s five young victims whose bodies were never found.

It is not known how the boy died but Brady, who is held in Ashworth high-security hospital on Merseyside, claimed he owned an array of weapons in the 1960s.

He made the admission in a letter last month to Channel 5 journalist Julian Druker.

Forensic experts examined the shotgun, found beneath rocks under an oak tree on Saddleworth Moor in December. It was in its original case, wrapped in a polythene sheet.

But Greater Manchester Police told Channel 5: “The degradation was so much that there were no forensic opportunities available.”

Police gave up the hunt for Keith in 2009. Brady had assisted them in 1987.

Terry Kilbride, whose brother John, 12, was murdered by Brady in 1963, called for a search of the area where the weapon was found.

He added: “What’s a shotgun doing there? I’ve always thought the police should have continued the search.”

Brady is seriously ill. Hindley died in jail aged 60 in 2002.
