The duo’s war-of-words broke out after Simpson responded to Liverpool legend Carragher donning Everton kit during an interview with Goodison striker Romelu Lukaku.

Carragher replied by asking if it was “more offensive than you lot running around on Monday” after Leicester’s dramatically improved performance in their 3-1 win over Liverpool.

Simpson hit back, saying: “I won the league, you haven’t.”

That prompted the former Anfield defender to ask whether one-time Old Trafford youngster Simpson actually had more than one title and was one of “those joke players at Man U who claimed titles after playing five games a season.”

Carragher added: “If we’re getting things off our chest, did you go and see the owner in Seville?”

That was a reference to the meeting between some Leicester players and the club’s owners following the Champions League tie that led to Ranieri’s sacking.

When Simpson taunted Carragher again with a picture of him and Danny Drinkwater with the Premier League trophy last season, Carragher replied: “Seville please Daniel, Seville.”
