WE’LL CARRA ON WINNING!

Simpson insists Foxes will stay in Prem and have the last laugh on Twitter foe Carragher

DANNY SIMPSON insists Leicester will prove critic Jamie Carragher wrong by staying up.

But the Foxes’ full-back has joked he can always call in Floyd Mayweather if their Twitter spat turns ugly again.

City defender Simpson, and Liverpool legend turned pundit Carragher, have swapped jibes on social media.

Simpson mocked Carragher for wearing an Everton shirt after the Scouser questioned the champions’ professionalism over their Premier League woes which led to manager Claudio Ranieri’s sacking.

Former Manchester United trainee Simpson and Carragher have since continued to trade jabs online. But after successive 3-1 wins over Liverpool and Hull since Ranieri’s controversial sacking, Simpson (left) believes he will have the last laugh.

Asked about Carragher teasing that he has never been relegated, Mancunian Simpson replied: “I am confident that is not going to happen.

“The last two results have helped with that and sometimes, football does the talking. We’ve always felt with the players we’ve got and the mentality of our group that we would.

“The season before we won the league, the majority of the players went through that tough time and came through, so we all know what we need to do and I think we’ve started to do it.

“I’ll shake Carragher’s hand if I see him. We’ve had a little exchange of words and you move on. I think you can do that with someone you respect.

“How many games has he played in the Premier League for Liverpool? Loads. You’ve got that whole Manchester-Liverpool thing going on as well.

“For me, it’s just light-hearted and I’d like to think it’s the same from his end. It’s not personal.”

Leicester came from behind on Saturday in the top flight for the first time this term to defeat Hull, after also beating Liverpool.

Simpson, in Dubai for City’s warm-weather camp, added: “It was a big week for us with back-to-back wins.

“It’s been tough, but at the same time a great week. Points and results make the difference.

“We’ve been horrible from the front to the back, we’ve been fighting and we’ve shown quality as well.”

But Simpson, 30, quipped if relations with Carragher, 39, deteriorate he may call on unbeaten former five-weight world champion Mayweather to be his trainer.

And the Foxes full-back, who met Mayweather last week on the American’s UK promotional tour, smiled: “It was a pleasure to meet him. He knew about what we did last season.

“I think a lot of the sports people know, especially in America because of the whole underdog thing.”
