‘SHOW THEM WHO’S BOSS, JT’

- BY GERRY COX

JOHN TERRY would make a great manager if he decides to hang up his boots after one final title victory with Chelsea, according to his former defensive partner William Gallas.

Terry has already begun taking his coaching badges and is seen by the club in an increasing off-the-field role now that boss Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation excludes him from starting regularly.

The 36-year-old has only featured once, as a substitute, in the Premier League since Conte switched to his successful three-man defence in September, and is unlikely to be offered another playing contract once his current 12-month deal expires this summer.

But ex-France star Gallas, who won two Premier League titles alongside the Blues captain a decade ago, says he can start on a successful career as a manager because of his leadership qualities and experience.

“I think John can become a great manager,” said Gallas, 39, who is the latest recruit to Star Sixes, a new tournament for former internationals to be held in London in July.

“He’s a natural leader, he has presence and is very intelligent, more than people realise. He has also played under some of the greatest managers – Jose Mourinho,

Carlo Ancelotti and now Antonio Conte. So he will be able to draw on all those experiences. I think he will be great.”

Gallas acknowledged that Terry (right) is still itching for more playing time, but added: “I know John and of course he wants to play more, but he’s not young any more and he has to accept it.

“He is a Chelsea boy, though, and the most important thing for him is that they win the Premier League again, with or without him in the side. That is the sort of guy he is.”

STAR SIXES is at The O2, London, from July 13-16. For tickets, visit www.theo2.co.uk/starsixes
