Myhusband the psychopath

Masood’s first wife fled after violent abuse

- BY STEPHEN WHITE

THE first wife of Westminster terrorist Khalid Masood said he was a “violent psychopath”.

Farzana Isaq, 38, was married to him for weeks before fleeing after he attacked her. A relative said: “She was scared of him. She went to the other end of the country.”

AFTER suffering at his hands, Khalid Masood’s petrified wife got out while she still could.

Farzana Isaq had also been ordered what to do and what to wear by the thug, according to a relative.

Farzana fled their home in fear and was granted a divorce after three months of marriage to the man whose terror rampage in Westminster on Wednesday sickened the nation.

A relative said: “He was very violent towards her, controlling in every aspect of her life – what she wore, where she went, everything.

“He was a psychopath and I mean that in the very medical definition of the word. He came from a nice family, had everything, but there was something very wrong with him.

“They were living in Crawley [West Sussex] and he was knocking around with a crew of not very nice people.

“He was a loner, but the friends he had were basically criminals.”

SCARED

After one particularly violent confrontation Farzana, now 38, fled their home and ran to friends in Middlesbrough. “That’s how bad it was,” said the relative. “She was terrified, he was a dangerous man.”

“She got out with a suitcase, just her clothes. She went to the other end of the country, she was scared of him.”

Masood – 14 years her senior – tracked his wife down, but Farzana insisted on a divorce.

Masood, 52, killed four pedestrians and injured about 50 others by driving into them on Westminster Bridge. He then burst through the gate to the Palace of Westminster and stabbed to death PC Keith Palmer, 48.

An officer shot Masood dead moments later.

The relative said Farzana did not recognise the killer at first when she saw the coverage on TV, adding: “We all really can’t take this in.

“How could someone do something like that? It was part of her life Farzana put behind her, now he’s brought this to her door.” After the divorce, Farzana rebuilt her life, settling in Oldham, Greater Manchester and remarried. Masood’s life has been filled with violence and prison sentences. He converted to Islam while serving a jail term. Masood was entered on to the birth registry in Dartford, Kent, as Adrian Russell Elms.

He lived in nearby Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where he attended Huntleys School for Boys.

Masood was raised as a Christian but started taking drugs at school where he was known as Adie.

He was a talented sportsman. He was pictured as a teenager in 1980 in the playground before a 24-hour charity football match. Classmate Stuart Knight, 52, said: “His mum Janet was quite big into the local church and he would talk about religion in class.

“Although he was a good all-round sportsman he was middle of the road academically. He didn’t sparkle but he certainly wasn’t stupid.”

Police have searched the home of Masood’s mum and stepdad in Carmarthenshire. Neither have been
