Detective’s roles of honour
DET Insp David Edgar solved some of Britain’s most sickening murders.
With more than 30 years’ experience with Cheshire Police and the Royal Ulster Constabulary, he found the killer of schoolgirl Claire Hart, 13, near Chester.
Loner Craig Smith, 20, shot her with an air rifle and strangled her in 2000. Mr Edgar helped convict him a year later.
Mr Edgar also helped jail Jordan Cunliffe, Adam Swellings and Stephen Sorton for the murderer of dad-of-three Garry Newlove, beaten to death on his doorstep in front of his family in 2007.
