SIR Elton John celebrated his 70th birthday in typically grand style and scotched any rumours he is thinking about retiring.

The star was joined by an array of celebrities as he was honoured at a party evening at Red Studios in LA.

Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga and Ryan Adams all performed at the event, hosted by actor Rob Lowe.

Sir Elton’s long-time writing partner Bernie Taupin, 66, told the Mirror the singer has no intentions of stopping performing.

Asked if the pair were thinking of retiring, Bernie said: “No. Good lord, no. I will retire when they put me in the grave – and it’s the same for Elton. We are work horses. We enjoy what we do and have the same enthusiasm now as we did when we started in 1967.”

Other guests at the bash, which benefited the Elton John Aids Foundation, included Katy Perry, model Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm.

Sir Elton earlier celebrated at home with husband David Furnish, 54, and sons Zachary, six, and Elijah, four, blowing out seven candles on a cake inscribed Happy Birthday, Daddy.
