GERMANY A SCHUR THING

-

TWO Andre Schurrle goals extended Germany’s perfect start to qualifying with a fifth win in a row.

Preferred by Joachim Low to Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, he opened the scoring and concluded it on a night when Dima Nazarov had briefly put Azerbaijan level.

Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez were also on target to virtually secure Germany’s place in the World Cup finals Russia.

They went ahead when Schurrle (above) squeezed through a static home defence to convert a cross from Jonas Hector.

Nazarov – who plays for Bundesliga 2 side Erzgebirge Aue – gave home fans hope on the half-hour with a superb equaliser, slotting home from Afran Ismayilov’s fine pass.

The visitors took just five minutes to recover, when a mistake by Ismayilov ended with Muller rounding keeper Kamran Agayev to score.

A Gomez header made it 3-1 just before half time and Schurrle sealed victory in the 81st minute.
