IT’S PARADISE FOR EDEN

Cas run riot as winger Greg tops try charts

WINGER Greg Eden went top of Super League’s try-scoring charts – and Castleford restored their place as competition leaders with another bagful of points.

But coach Daryl Powell reckoned he was happier watching his kids destined for fame win their own battle against the Dragons.

Tigers, suffering a hangover from their only defeat of the campaign at Salford, trailed 14-0 in as many minutes before cutting loose with seven touchdowns and seven goals from England half-back Luke Gale.

Powell said: “I went to watch our Under-19s and they are top as well.

“For us as a club I think it is awesome we are doing really well across the board.

“We should be seen as a progressive team. And seeing the U-19s win was as pleasing as us getting the two points.

“We made too many basic errors, but at times we look unbelievably difficult to hold and overall we had to win the game.”

Powell also insisted Eden is a project that still needs work despite another brace that took his touchdown tally to 10, one more than injured team-mate Greg Minikin.

Powell (right) admitted: “He does some things that make you pull your hair out. He also does some high-quality things, he can finish and he is quick.

“He is a little bit different but we need to stop him kicking the ball. Every time he does that it doesn’t turn to gold.

“At 14-0 down we were under pressure. There were some good things but we looked leaky at times.”

With the win guaranteed Tigers took off Joel Monaghan to give Rangi Chase a 15-minute cameo in his first game since being axed for disciplinary reasons earlier this month. Zak Hardaker, Grant Millington, Junior Moors, Michael Shenton and Monaghan completed the scoring for Cas.

Dragons have now gone four games without a win since beating Hull FC 16-14 on February 23. That depressing sequence looked unlikely when tries from Iain Thornley and Richie Myler plus three Luke Walsh goals appeared to put them in control.

But they finished a well-beaten side and also lost former Wigan star Thornley to concussion.

Coach Laurent Frayssinous said: “We had a great start with the ball but for 80 minutes in defence we weren’t good enough.

“If you look at the first 15 minutes we had most of the possession, we showed great aggression and scored some tries. But we couldn’t defend.”
