ZID’S BOYS DON’T LOOK REAL DEAL

-

REAL MADRID maintained their position at the top of La Liga – but failed to produce a champion display at the Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants took the lead against ALAVES thanks to Karim Benzema’s first-half goal before late Isco and Nacho efforts gave the scoreline a flattering 3-0 appearance.

After a fine half-volley from Benzema (above), Real failed to push on.

Cristiano Ronaldo was unrecognisable from his usual self after the week a bizarre bust that looked nothing like him was unveiled at Madeira Airport.

Alaves really should have levelled with Deyverson and Edgar both missing superb chances.

But Real came to life near the end and scored a second goal moments after Gareth Bale hit the post.

Isco ran on to Ronaldo’s 85th-minute pass to finally ease the nerves for Zinedine Zidane’s team.

And three minutes later, Nacho headed home the rebound when Bale’s freekick struck the bar.

In Germany, BAYERN MUNICH moved 13 points clear with eight games remaining after thumping AUGSBURG 6-0 at home thanks to a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti said: “Robert Lewandowski did what he normally does.

“He scored three times and set up two more – what more can I say about him?”
