IT’S ALL BUT OVER FOR O’S

Orient facing drop by Easter

-

LEYTON ORIENT could be relegated from the Football League as early as Easter weekend as their nightmare season continued.

The O’s went down 2-0 at home to Wycombe on Saturday, their 17th league defeat at Brisbane Road.

Omer Riza, their fifth manager of the season, was sent to the stands while defender Tom Parkes was also dismissed in another horrific afternoon.

After Riza’s dismissal, former Under-16 coach Frederico Morais and ex-Orient youth liaison officer Errol McKellar directed matters.

Previous boss Danny Webb left in the week, resigning after alleged interference from owner Francesca Becchetti.

Fans stormed the directors’ box to unveil a banner reading “b ****** s” while away fans joined in condemning the Italian.

Goals from Matt Bloomfield and Myles Weston ensured the game was over as a contest before the break against an Orient side who were not paid this week and are nine points from safety.

Riza said: “When I got offered to come in for the last seven games it was a real tough decision for me. It was one that I could not turn down because I cannot leave the club in the situation it is in for my own personal point of view.

“The players will never forget this season and they will take this with them wherever they go.

“It will be good for them. On the other side of the players not being paid it was difficult on Friday as we tried to pick them up.”

While Orient are in dire straits, Doncaster just need one more win after their 5-1 demolition away at Grimsby where John Marquis scored a first career hat-trick.

The striker said: “We are almost there and we just want to get promoted as soon as possible, but for us we want more than just promotion we want to go on and win the league.”
