Moyes comment a real own goal

-

#As a female footie fan, I have to say I find David Moyes’ threat to slap Match of the Day’s Vicki Sparks offensive. Would he have also threatened to slap a male reporter who asked the same question? No chance.

Well done to your writer Andy Dunn and also to Gary Lineker for taking up the issue (Daily Mirror, April 4).

The Football Association is right to launch an investigation and should make an example of him.

This kind of behaviour would be grounds for gross misconduct in the workplace, so why should it be acceptable in football? Ali Edwards, Coventry

#I read with interest Andy Dunn and Gary Lineker’s comments about David Moyes’ remark to Match of the Day reporter Vicki Sparks following her post-match interview.

I saw it live and, like all sensible folk, saw the funny side of it. As Vicki accepted his apology when given, the matter should have been closed at that point. Gary Lineker has only jumped on the bandwagon because the

reporter is from his programme. Jack Whiston, Edinburgh

#Sunderland manager David Moyes has done himself no favours with his insulting remarks to Vicki Sparks. She is a professional sports journalist and deserves to be treated with respect. As a key member of the League Managers Association, Moyes should have known better. He has brought his club and the game into disrepute. The FA must act to show this kind of macho posturing is no longer tolerated in the so-called beautiful game. S Graham, Widnes, Cheshire

#Women in Football is asking the Football Association to help educate managers after the latest unsavoury incident, involving Sunderland manager David Moyes.

Surely the only education Moyes needs is to look up the definition of the words “respect” and “bully” and realise his ignorance of the meaning of these two words was his downfall.

What more education does he need? Brian Quinn, Middleton, Manchester

#PC culture in the UK is now getting ridiculous. You can’t say anything – even in jest. David Moyes is just another typical example. The female reporter did not make an issue of it, so why all the hullaballoo?

Gary Lineker, with his holier than thou attitude, should be fighting the corner of the Walkers crisps’ workers who face losing their jobs instead of jumping on this bandwagon. Eric Smith, Exeter, Devon

#What is all the furore over David Moyes’ comments to Vicki Sparks? If you saw the footage you could see it was tongue in cheek and Vicki didn’t collapse in floods of tears, she walked away laughing.

I’m sure Vicki will be at the forefront when the next opportunity to interview Moyes comes around and won’t be wearing a crash helmet! Ron Wilson, Newcastle upon Tyne

#David Moyes obviously doesn’t give a damn about all the female supporters he has angered with his stupid remark.

And all those people saying it was just a joke are helping to perpetuate these out-oftouch attitudes.

Do they also think women should be chained to the kitchen sink? Helen Connor, via email
