PUTIN: U.S. WILL BOMB SYRIA TO FRAME ASSAD
Russian premier goes on attack He’s accused of ‘disinformation’
VLADIMIR Putin has accused America of plotting more missile strikes in Syria and warned of “fake” gas attacks designed to bring down the Assad regime.
The Russian premier said Moscow had received intelligence about planned assaults with the sole purpose of pinning the blame on the Syrian leader.
Putin said: “We have information that a similar provocation is being prepared... in other parts of Syria, including in the southern Damascus suburbs, where they are planning to again plant some substance and accuse the Syrian authorities of using it.”
The US National Security Council said “it is clear the Russians are trying to cover up what happened” in Syria with a “disinformation campaign”.
Russia has rejected suggestions it or the Syrian government was behind the gas attack in Idlib province last week which killed more than 80 civilians.
On Friday, the US retaliated with air strikes on a Syrian airbase.
Putin has appealed to the UN to launch an investigation into the attack. It came as Ivanka Trump was revealed to be the “influence” who convinced her father Donald to order the airstrike. As the Mirror reported last week, Ivanka, 35, was the key to changing the president’s mind after more than four years of arguing he would not become involved in the Middle East conflict. Eric Trump has revealed his sister played a substantial role in their father’s decision to attack. He said: “Ivanka is a mother of three kids and she has influence. I’m sure she said, ‘Listen, this is horrible stuff ’. My father will act in times like that.” Ivanka tweeted she was “heartbroken and outraged”. After her message was posted, Mr Trump’s stance hardened and he ordered the Tomahawk missile attack. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson failed to convince G7 ministers in Lucca, Italy, to back sanctions against Russia following the suspected sarin gas attack. Kim Jong-un claims North Korea is “ready for war” after the US moved a naval force into the Sea of Japan.
