Fasten your seat belts...
Urgent warning to anyone who did not watch every new episode of Car Share the minute they went live on iPlayer last night: If you spot someone bleary-eyed — possibly teary-eyed — avoid them like a freeflights offer from United Airlines.
For professional reasons, I had to watch it all at once. But don’t despair, me mentioning “tearyeyed” will not prove to be a spoiler.
It was pretty clear from the single opener on BBC1 last night that the second series was going to be what every fan wanted it to be — a love story between John (Peter Kay) and Kayleigh (the magnificent Sian Gibson), right.
As I haven’t said whether it ends in happy tears or sad tears, you can still enjoy it on a weekly basis. And enjoy it you will. It has everything that made the first series so memorable.
Of course, some viewers will still be turned off by the fact that it remains unashamedly nostalgic.
Kay knows better than anyone though that old jokes make the world go round. I mean, when I was in Tenerife last week, the biggest laughs our hotel entertainer got were for impressions of Tommy Cooper and Frank Spencer.
Anyway, Kay can be bang up-todate when he wants to be.
In fact, the sharpest thing in episode one was that blink-andyou-miss-it billboard advertising a new C4 coal-based reality show called Miner Celebrities, with the tagline: “They’ve finally reached rock bottom.” A joke, I know. But if C4 did ever make such a show, I would so watch it.
