SIMEONE RATES FOXES AND IS WARY OF VARDY

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Madrid

DIEGO SIMEONE could not have been more complimentary about Leicester – but swiftly shut down a question about his own future.

Atletico Madrid boss Simeone is seen as the next superstar manager, linked with every big Premier League job, while Inter Milan also have him on their hit-list.

He would be box office alongside Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, but gave a very clear answer when asked whether there was anything he wanted to do at Atletico before leaving for England or Italy.

“Yes, win tomorrow night,” snapped Simeone (above).

And, with that, the former Argentina hardman walked out of the press conference.

Simeone is clearly a manager going places after reaching the Champions League final twice in the last three seasons and is widely tipped to go to Inter next, but that may be in another year if he stays to usher in Atletico’s move to their new stadium.

What was most interesting about him yesterday was the glowing praise reserved for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and it is clear Atletico believe he is the dangerman.

Simeone said: “I like him, I really rate him as a striker.

“He is the kind of powerful striker Atletico have had. He gives the team a lot of depth, and makes life really difficult for defenders to get the ball out. He is very dangerous and if we make any mistakes, he will penalise that.”

On the Foxes’ style of play, Simeone added: “Leicester adapt their style of play to fit their players.

“And they’ve done well in Europe because of that.”
