KANE WE’LL GIVE THE BLUES MORE PAIN
Cup tie a chance for Spurs to tilt title battle their way
HARRY KANE wrote his name in the record books alongside a Tottenham legend and then told Chelsea: We’re coming to get you.
The clubs have an FA Cup semi-final showdown on Saturday and Kane warmed up for it with a goal in a 4-0 demolition of Bournemouth. That made him the first Spurs player since Jimmy Greaves to score 20 times in three consecutive seasons. And with Chelsea’s tame surrender to Manchester United yesterday giving the north Londoners renewed hope in the title race, Kane said: “We’re feeling as good as we’ve ever done. Mentally we’re strong, and we’re feeling ruthless at the
minute. So once we go ahead we look to kill the game off.
“It’s always nice to find out you’ve broken a record. Jimmy Greaves was unbelievable. A club legend. He scored goals week in, week out.
“It’s important for me as a striker to be consistent, so to reach that 20-goal mark again is great.”
Tottenham ended Chelsea’s 13-match winning run in the league in January. Kane – whose goal was No.25 of the campaign – believes a win at Wembley on Saturday could yet derail the leaders’ title charge.
He said: “It could be big psychologically. Of course it’s a different competition, so it’s hard to say.
“But it’s a big game for us, a massive semi-final and you never know. If we win next week it might put a bit more doubt in their minds regarding the Premier League.”
Spurs have won their last seven top-flight games – narrowing the gap on Chelsea to four points – a feat they last achieved half a century ago.
“It’s important to keep our momentum going,” said Kane. “It doesn’t matter what anyone else does, we have to keep winning.”
