EU BEAUTY Firmino ends jinx

WEST BROM 0 LIVERPOOL 1

ROBERTO FIRMINO ended Liverpool’s six-year West Brom jinx and put Jurgen Klopp on course for the Champions League.

His 11th goal of the season gave the Reds their first win at The Hawthorns since 2011 and Klopp raved: “This is a difficult place to play. After the whistle we didn’t go crazy but we were very happy.”

TONY PULIS has given keeper Ben Foster a rollicking for going up for corners and ordered the West Brom No.1 to stay in goal.

The ex-England star (above) went up for two corners in a frantic last few minutes and on both occasions the Baggies could have conceded another goal, especialy when Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno fired a shot wide with the net unguarded.

West Brom boss Pulis admitted: “I’ve just had a chat with Ben.

“I don’t like keepers going up for corners personally, but I’ve never said it to Ben so he didn’t know. But he does now!”

The loss was the fifth in seven league games for West Brom since they achieved Premier League survival.

It has prompted the club to market season tickets for next term on billboards around Birmingham bragging: “The only place to see Premier League football in the West Midlands...”

The posters are a clear dig at neighbouring Aston Villa, relegated last season from the Premier League for the first time, and who have failed to bounce back at the first attempt.

Quizzed about the posters, Pulis said: “We’re still eighth in the league with five games to go, we’re not doing too badly.

“It’s been a great season for West Brom and our supporters in this city.

“We came up against a good side today and we gave them a game. And that’s what we want to do in every game we play.

“We’ve played Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool and given teams with resources way beyond our dreams a game and that’s what I want to do.

“What this season has proved is that we do need that little bit more quality and we need a bit more depth as well.”
