SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons has issued a nationwide recall on its green beans after two customers say they found sharp pieces of metal inside them.

The women, one from Glasgow and the other from Manchester, bought the own-brand veg over Easter.

Store bosses have contacted police and officials from the Food Standards Agency while they probe the incidents, 200 miles apart.

Cancer survivor Sarah Parry, 41, only discovered her Market Street beans had a sharp metal “needle” inside after it stabbed her gums while eating.

The mother of three, from Chadderton, Manchester, said: “I bit into the green bean and it was there in the centre. It stabbed me in the gum.

“I dread to think if it was my fouryear-old little girl who had been eating it or another child.

“The needle itself was around two and a half inches and a bit thicker than a normal sewing needle,” she added. Sarah warned staff at the store about her find – and was offered a £5 voucher. She is now angry after discovering she is not the only one to find metal in the beans.

Margaret Lynch, 49, had been chopping the beans when she found 12 metal spikes inside – sparking fears it could have been done deliberately. She returned her pack to her local store in Glasgow. “I can’t imagine this was done by another customer, I think it’s from the growers because they were hidden right inside,” she said.

Morrisons said: “We have been made aware of two incidents involving metal being found in two packets of green beans.

“The health and safety of our customers is our top priority, so as a precaution, we are recalling the products and are continuing with our investigation.”

It urged customers with Morrisons Trimmed Beans 170g dated April 22-24 2017 to return them for a full refund.
