Boris’s sister: I’m a Lib Dem

Rachel defects & may stand as MP in Brexit protest

BORIS Johnson’s sister has joined the Lib Dems in protest at the Tories’ support for Brexit.

The Foreign Secretary was left reeling after Rachel defected to Tim Farron’s pro-Europe party.

She is said to be considering standing as an election candidate for the Lib Dems – though may not have enough time to be nominated.

Ms Johnson has previously said she “sat down and wept” at the EU referendum result. Her brother has often ridiculed the Lib Dems.

In 2013 he said: “The Lib Dems are wobbling jellies of indecision. It’s our constitutional duty to kick them in the... well, do they have any?”

The defection overshadowed Mr Johnson’s first big day on the campaign trail. Prior to yesterday, he had been kept under wraps amid fears over his blundering. But in a TV interview, he admitted the NHS may not get the whole £350million a week he promised during the referendum.

Labour MP Chuka Umunna said: “Boris Johnson is taking the public for fools. A year after the referendum, we have not seen a penny of the £350million a week he promised.”

Mr Johnson was also criticised for saying he would “find it difficult to say no” if Donald Trump asked Britain to join an attack on Syria.

And PM Theresa May yesterday refused to back Johnson to stay as Foreign Secretary after the election, saying only he “is doing a great job”.
