More drink-driving offences happen in May than in any other month of the year, according to research from car insurer Admiral.

Almost one in six drivers stopped in May during the past three years were over the drink-drive limit.

That’s compared to less than one in 20 in December, a time traditiona­lly associated with drinking and partying.

“This puts themselves and other road users and pedestrian­s in danger, but they also risk financial penalties.”
