I TOLD ANTHONY HE WOULD RULE

(Says the coach plotting to conquer him at Wembley)

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

JOHNATHON BANKS told Anthony Joshua he would be world heavyweight champion – but now the American is plotting his downfall. Banks got to know Joshua when the IBF king visited Wladimir Klitschko’s Stanglwirt training camp to spar with him in 2014. He was greatly impressed with Joshua and the pair swapped numbers and kept in touch. But there have been no texts since the fight was announced in December and Banks has been devising Klitschko’s game plan. “I remember him,” said Banks. “I gave him power. I worked with him on the pads. He’s a very good guy. Very nice. He was a great athlete. I told him he’d be world champion one day because I’d seen the way he fights, his style, the way he carries himself. “We had a lot of fun and kept in contact up until they signed the contract between him and Wlad. We didn’t stay in contact no more.” Banks (left), 34, has faced Joshua before, when he was in Dillian Whyte’s corner at The O2 in December 2015. Whyte is the only fighter to trouble Joshua, as he drew the Brit into a slugfest. “AJ and Dillian both let their emotions play a big part,” added Banks. “The only difference is AJ calmed down. He relaxed and he got his composure. Dillian didn’t.”
