A PREMIER League footballer has blown his entire £15million fortune on gambling.

The international has played at the top for almost his entire career, earning a fortune through contracts, endorsements and sponsorship.

He became addicted to betting, particularly card games and casinos, early on and is struggling financially, despite earning £40,000 a week.

The star, who cannot be named, is one of the players identified by a whistleblower who has exposed the rising number of Premier League stars who blow millions on betting.

The British midfielder is struggling to meet his monthly payments despite his taking home almost £2million a year. He had to downsize his family home, and is now desperate to sign a new contract so he can maintain his lifestyle.

ADDICTED

The star, who has visited Las Vegas, is one of a number of players from the same club who have online accounts with the same bookie, according to our source.

The whistleblower said: “He has a VIP rating. You can see from his account that he is being invited to all the big race days, parties and football matches.

“He is one of a number of players – all of them big names, well known to fans – at the same Premier League club who opened accounts.

“As a top player, he gets all the benefits the bookies can offer.

“He has moved from his home because he could not keep up the mortgage payments. He has to rent. They have posh cars but they are all leased.

“He is trying to sort a new contract, but he is sweating on it because he needs to keep earning to maintain his lifestyle.” The Mirror told yesterday how footballers are blowing millions after being wooed by bookies with freebies and tickets for top sports events.

Our source alleged betting bosses let players carry on gambling after they had lost millions and shown signs of addiction.

The insider told how one England star bet £500 on his own transfer to a top-flight club in a bid to win £5,000. And a Premier League defender blew £500,000 on mobile phone casino games in a year.

Players are banned from betting on anything relating to football.
