Tories in thrall to the hunt brigade

-

# So, Theresa May admits she wants to bring back fox hunting and says she will hold a free vote for MPs if she wins the election (Mirror, May 10). Why is this, I wonder?

It’s clear she is not thinking about ordinary people but about all the Hooray Henrys who vote for her.

How often do you hear about ordinary people going fox hunting? You don’t.

There will be other items on Mrs May’s agenda that knock working people, so we must see sense and vote for Labour on June 8.

People should realise they would be voting for Jeremy Corbyn’s values, not his personality or his looks. Susan Moon, Deal, Kent

#It would be a mistake for the Tories to bring back fox hunting. A poll showed 84% of people in England and Wales want it to remain illegal – that’s the kind of public support most politicians can only dream of. Rather than pandering to a vocal minority who want to return Britain to the dark ages of animal cruelty for fun, we call on all politicians not only to reject any repeal, weakening or substitution of the Hunting Act of 2004, but also to support its strengthening and its better enforcement. Chris Luffingham, Director of Campaigns, League Against Cruel Sports

#What an absolute disgrace this Tory Government is. We have thousands of homeless people, families relying on food banks, pensioners having to choose between heating and eating, the NHS and social care in crisis, and Brexit. But instead of sorting out what is wrong with this country, the Tories are more excited by the thought of bringing back this inhumane so-called sport. Shame on the lot of them. C Simmons, Halifax, West Yorks

#I see the Hooray Henrys are using the election as a platform for plans to bring back fox hunting. In my view there should be a referendum on it. People who live in the countryside do not want galloping hooves prancing about all over fields and gardens while killing wildlife. Barbara Millner, St Helens, Merseyside

#Austerity, people unable pay their bills and facing eviction, foodbanks... the list goes on.

Surely, there are more important issues facing this country over the coming years than the re-introduction of the vile so-called sport of fox hunting? The Tories, once again, show their true values. Bill Brooks, Blyth, Northumberland

#No doubt the animal rights brigade will be up in arms about Theresa May supporting the repeal of the hunting ban, but I happen to agree with the Prime Minister.

To many of us who live in the country, foxes are vermin that destroy chickens and sheep.

Hunting is a way of controlling the fox population. There’s no nice way to kill a fox, so it’s ridiculous to ban something which has been part of rural life for centuries and which

serves a useful purpose. G Armstrong, Worcester

#It is appalling how the Tories aim to get rid of all the good things Labour governments have done. Bring back fox hunting? Heaven help us if they get in again. J Wykes, Dukinfield, Gtr Manchester
