‘Not having kids has been very sad for us’

-

THERESA May last night spoke candidly about how she and husband Philip were unable to have children.

Interviewed by LBC radio, the Prime Minister was asked whether she would be a different person if she had become a mother.

Mrs May, 60, said: “I think it’s impossible to answer the question about how I would have been.

“It’s been very sad. It just turned out not to be possible for us.

“Of course, we’re not the only couple that finds themselves in that situation and when you do I suppose you just get on with life.”

She also told interviewer Nick Ferrari that her Christian faith helped her after losing her parents when she was just 25.

Her father, Hubert Brasier, was killed in a car crash and, just a few months later, her mother, Zaidee, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, also died. The Tory leader said: “I think my faith helped, actually. I was very fortunate in that I had been married not that long beforehand. “Philip’s been a fantastic support for me and was my rock at that time. “I was an only child so I didn’t have brothers and sisters I could share it with. It’s difficult to explain, but the faith was there and did provide support for me through those difficult times.” Mrs May also said she sleeps “pretty well” despite her job, and revealed that she would cook roast lamb for US President Donald Trump if he came around to dinner.
