Lane exit a Hartwarmer

-

I LOVED the scenes at Tottenham’s farewell to White Hart Lane.

Cliff Jones running out on to the pitch at 82 years of age, Gary Mabbutt’s big smile, and Glenn Hoddle (below), the player I tried to emulate as a 12-year-old, out in the middle again.

Coventry City do something similar with their legends every year, although it doesn’t get as much publicity because of the dire straits they have been in.

Now I’d love to see every club do something similar and I don’t think we should have to wait until a stadium closes for that to happen.

I’d go as far as to say it should be a stipulation by the Premier League that clubs set up a Hall of Fame and at the final home game of every season every Hall of Fame member is invited and one or two more players are inducted.

Clubs should put on some live music — as Leicester did when Kasabian and Andrea Bocelli played at the King Power at the end of last season — to accompany the show, by way of a thank you to supporters and to give something back.

What Spurs did was not only a spectacle for their own fans but for other football fans to enjoy as well.

And only the hardest-hearted of Arsenal or West Ham supporters would have turned their noses up at what they saw.

STOKE would be the perfect place for Marco Silva to rock up next season.

Their fans’ expectations are low at the moment and a lot seem to think Mark Hughes hasn’t pushed them forward for 18 months or so now.

I’ve had a few contact me saying they want him out and if Peter Coates were to decide they were right then Silva is the sort of young, hungry manager he should be looking for.
