RUCKING & DIVING

Carra taunts United and Huth mocks Sanchez as FA agree on bans for divers and deceivers

- BY DARREN LEWIS

LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher taunted Manchester United after the FA declared war on divers yesterday.

Players will be banned for two matches if a panel decides a referee has been deceived. Carragher, critical of Old Trafford striker Marcus Rashford for an apparent dive against Swansea, said on social media: “More problems for Man Utd next season,” with a link to a story about the law to be introduced next season. A three-man

panel will sit in judgment every Monday to review incidents involving simlulation.

Under plans confirmed at Wembley yesterday, players whose dives result in penalties or a red card for an opponent will be hit with a two-match ban.

The offence, following a rule introduced in Scotland six years ago, will be punished as the “successful deception of a match official”.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez (top, left) was accused of faking injury when he fell to the ground holding his face when he tried to block Leicester’s Christian Fuchs taking a long throw.

The ball had appeared to hit him on the shoulder and yesterday Leicester’s titlewinning centre-half Robert Huth (inset) quipped: “Great news... add pretending to be injured and crying when you lose and we are really getting somewhere!”

The FA panel will consist of one former match official, one ex-manager, and one ex-player.
