I’M sorry. Just so sorry. I just want to scream that out.

Desperately sorry for parents whose children never came home from a concert. Truly sorry for all those who survived but for whom life will never feel certain again.

And sorry beyond all measure that this crime was, it seems likely, committed in the name of my faith. Because this killer can never call himself a Muslim. He was evil, a coward, a murderer.

Islam is a religion of peace yet some people are less and less convinced of this as body counts mount across the globe.

The contempt I feel for these people overwhelms me. Our religion has been stolen from us then perverted by people intent on using it to twist the minds of those who kill. They see us as enemies because we choose tolerance, not their barbaric view.

CRIED

To see a true Muslim, look at the cab drivers who helped ferry injured people. At the doctors who treated them. At the mums, dads, lawyers, shopkeepers, police officers and lollipop ladies who deplore this killing. Who cried, as I did, at stories of lost children. And who believe in peace and living by the laws of this great country.

Yesterday when I woke up my husband placed his hand on mine and said: “There’s been an explosion, it looks like a terrorist act”. I felt physically sick.

I met Muslim women and all we talked about was the horror, as sickened as any mother in Britain. “How do we stop this happening in our name?” we asked.

After each attack there are calls for Muslims to do more to root out extremists. There are amazing projects but we must keep trying to do more, to make everyone believe how much we hate those that brought carnage to Britain.

We will soon be in Ramadan. No true Muslim would do such a barbaric thing at such a time. All true Muslims in Britain share the pain of this atrocity.

We will beat this evil together, united and fearless.
