Spot the women on the ballot..

Migration down 248,000

-

MORE than 7.5 million people cannot vote for a woman in the election because there are none standing in their constituency.

In 11 (left), no female candidates have stood since boundary changes in 2010, including by-elections.

A total of 104 seats have only men on the ballot; 93 are in England.

Scarborough and Whitby has the longest all-male list, at eight, while Northern Ireland is the only nation with a woman going for every seat.

Calling for a minimum 45% of female candidates for each party, Sam Smethers, of campaigners The Fawcett Society, said: “The time has come for a legally enforceable target to achieve the radical change we need.”

Of Labour’s candidates, 41% are women. Tories have just 28%.

(Clue: there are none. Just like in 104 contests all over Britain)

NET migration dropped to 248,000 last year as tens of thousands of EU nationals left following the Brexit vote.

Data from the Office for National Statistics shows a dip of 84,000 in 2016 compared with 2015. Immigration was estimated to be 588,000 while emigration was 339,000. Experts pointed to a big drop in arrivals from former eastern bloc Europe and warned that uncertainty for EU nationals could continue to influence the numbers.

Yesterday’s figures came as part of a quarterly update showing that arrivals from eastern and central European countries plummeted dramatically.
