Noel: Wife tells me off for not making kids do homework
I never did any and look at me, says Oasis star
NOEL Gallagher gets told off at home for being too lenient with his son.
The Oasis star, who admits he is not “the average dad”, says wife Sara accuses him of lacking enthusiasm in disciplining son Donovan, nine.
He says: “She’ll ask, ‘Will you make him do his homework?’ And I’d be like, ‘Yeah, in a minute.’
“I’ll just say, ‘I never did any homework, look at me!’. I do get a b ****** ing for that.
“I don’t know what the average dad is but I wouldn’t consider myself the average dad.” Noel has three children – sons Donovan and Sonny, six, with wife of six years Sara, 45 – and daughter Anaïs, 17, from his marriage to Meg Matthews.
Asked if he would encourage them to enter the music industry, he quips: “I’d say, ‘Right, pass me that guitar and I’ll show the benchmark here, son’.
“And I’d play Don’t Look Back in Anger and then I’d put the guitar down to almost certainly a deathly silence.
“Then I’d say ‘Yeah! f***ing dream on, okay? Now, go and put the kettle on.” Despite turning 50 in two days’ time, Noel says he has not yet hit the midlife crisis.
“No earrings, no tattoos, no leather trousers,” he insists to Absolute radio for an interview that will air at 8pm on Monday to mark his birthday.
Quizzed on the best song he has written, he admits he does not like Wonderwall.
He says: “Cigarettes and Alcohol is far superior. And for the life of me I can’t work out why Morning Glory would have sold 20 odd million and Definitely Maybe only five or six.”
