Dad has shell of a surprise

A MAN using a metal detector for the first time found an exploded Second World War shell.

Carl Bradford, 45, was trying out his birthday gift with daughter Holly, 18, when he found an object six inches down.

The pensions consultant of Maidstone, Kent, said: “We dug to lever it up.” Realising what it was he “gently placed it back”.

Bomb disposal experts safely removed the shell from the spot at Tankerton Slopes, near Whitstable.
