Mum saved as mobile deflects nut from bomb

-

A MOTHER was saved by her mobile phone when it deflected a flying nut from the bomb.

The piece of metal chopped off Lisa Bridgett’s middle finger as she talked on the phone – then bounced off the phone, going into her cheek and her nose.

Her husband Steve says Lisa, 45, is “very lucky to be alive” and believes the smashed phone slowed down the nut.

Lisa, a manager of a boatyard in Pwllheli, North Wales, was at the concert with her daughter and her daughter’s friend.

She has had surgery and was due to have another operation after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound on her thigh.

Steve, 45, said: “The fact that she was on the phone at the time probably saved her life.

“The nut has hit her phone, which has more than likely not only diverted it, but also slowed it down considerably.

“This may seem a bit graphic, but at the end of the day, it’s a reality. All of us want to thank the police for their incredible work and all the staff at both the MRI and Wythenshawe [Hospital, South Manchester] for all the work they’ve done and are doing.”

He praised a Manchester Arena steward named Peter who helped Lisa and got her to safety outside.
