NO REASON FOR LEW TO EVER LEAVE

-

LEWIS HAMILTON’S boss Toto Wolff believes the British driver will finish his F1 career with Mercedes.

The triple world champion heads into tomorrow’s Monaco GP six points adrift of title rival Sebastian Vettel in his bid to become the first Briton to win four championships.

The 32-year-old is now in his fifth controversy-fuelled campaign with Mercedes, but has won 34 races and two world titles.

Hamilton had a toxic relationship with team-mate Nico Rosberg before the German’s shock retirement last year just days after winning the drivers’ championship.

Wolff said: “If you had asked me about Lewis and Mercedes one year ago, I would not have been very optimistic, but now it is different. This is very strong now.

“I have the feeling that it can’t be much better in a different place. For him and for us.

“After five years, this relationship has become so strong in a way that it wasn’t last season.

“For Lewis it will be important to see whether we are competitive or not, but at the moment there is such a solid basis that I can imagine it going on for ever.”

The drivers return to the track today battling for pole position following yesterday’s rest day.

After struggling in second practice on Thursday, Hamilton will be hoping his Silver Arrow is back up to speed as he goes into battle with Vettel after two wins apiece this season.
