OAP died day after cop said she was okay
AN elderly woman died in squalor a day after police decided she was okay – by looking through a window.
Officers had been called by a workman who felt Cherry Madden, 64, looked unwell, was not properly dressed and confined herself to one room.
A Police Community Support Officer sent to make a welfare check tapped on her window and left after “seeing her react”.
He reported there was “no cause for concern”.
Ms Madden was found dead the next day in Hastings, East Sussex, a police misconduct panel heard.
The unnamed officer has been given a final written warning for gross misconduct.
An inquest will be held next month.
