I’M LOVE-TORN OVER WHICH UNI TO GO TO
Dear Coleen I’m going to university this September, but I have a huge dilemma. I’ve been offered a place at Cambridge University, which was truly a dream come true.
But I’m now debating whether or not to go there because I also have the opportunity to go to another university where my boyfriend will be.
I feel so torn. I worry that if I go to Cambridge it will be really difficult to maintain the relationship and, even though I am young, I know I want to spend the rest of my life with him.
Do I follow my heart and follow him? Or do I follow my head and go to Cambridge? Coleen says As a parent myself, and someone who’s not emotionally involved, I would advise you to take your place at Cambridge.
I know you’re saying now that you want to spend the rest of your life with this boy, but that might not be the case in a year or two.
I think you might always regret it if you don’t take up your place and, if you did stay with your boyfriend, you might even hold it against him.
If the two of you are meant to be together, you’ll do it despite the challenges of being at different universities. Long-distance relationships aren’t easy, but if you love each other and put a bit of thought into planning when you see each other, it is possible.
I imagine you worked really hard to be offered this place, so be very careful not to throw it away.
And, if things don’t work out with your boyfriend, it’s not like you’ll never love again. You will.
