Tobacco companies lost fight against plain packaging
Since May 20 all cigarettes in the UK have been sold in plain packaging after the tobacco industry failed in its bid to appeal the new law. The Supreme Court refused the industry permission to go back to court in the final step of the domestic legal process, meaning that the law has come into effect. British American Tobacco, Imperial Brands, Japan Tobacco International and Phillip Morris International had claimed that the law would infringe their human and intellectual property rights.
