Ransomware attack ‘came from China’
THE cyber-attack that hit 47 NHS trusts could have come from China.
The ransomware came from a “Chinese native or at least someone fluent” in Mandarin, analysts said.
The Wannacry bug crippled 200,000 computers in 150 countries earlier this month. But proper use of grammar and punctuation was only found in Chinese versions, while 27 other languages appeared mostly “machine translated”.
Cyber-security expert Prof Alan Woodward of University of Surrey said: “It was only the Chinese and the English versions that appeared to be written by someone that understood the language.”
