Golfer Woods is arrested at 3am in Florida for driving under influence
GOLFER Tiger Woods has been arrested for driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
Woods, 41, was taken into custody at 3am yesterday in West Palm Beach, Florida, after being pulled over in his Mercedes by traffic police.
A mugshot of the 14-times major champion showed him looking dishevelled, with unkempt hair and bleary eyes, wearing a white T-shirt.
Reports in the US said Woods was “driving erratically, all over the road”. When police pulled him over, an officer smelled alcohol on his breath and said Woods became “arrogant”.
The officer asked Woods to blow into a breathalyser and he refused, which in Florida means an automatic arrest and licence suspension.
A source said Woods’ team had been calling the police department all morning, asking if the officer had been wearing a bodycam.
The former world number one, who is recovering from back surgery, was booked into the local county jail under his real name Eldrick Tiger Woods at 7.18am, before being released on his “own recognisance” three-and-a-half hours later.
A police spokeswoman said Woods was stopped on Military Trail, around 10 miles from his £64million mansion on Jupiter Island.
She did not specify if it was related to drink or drugs.
In 2009, after rowing with his wife Elin Nordegren, 37, over his infidelity, Woods hit a tree while driving under the influence in his Cadillac Escalade. A source said: “Tiger has struggled since his infidelity was exposed.”
