Six separate probes look at NHS trust maternity deaths
A SCANDAL-hit hospital trust, exposed by the Daily Mirror over avoidable deaths of babies and mothers, is at the centre of six independent inquiries.
Shocking stories revealed how babies died at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust after medics ignored warnings.
Now NHS Improvement, the patient safety watchdog, is probing the deaths of 15 babies and three mums, plus 10 cases of harm. The Nursing and Midwifery Council is investigating four midwives.
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Midwives are examining what the trust learned from deaths — while the trust board will review “safety” and “quality”.
And Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group has set up two inquiries after continued “serious concerns”.
