BBC is told to reveal if Cliff raid tip was from the police

- BY BEN ROSSINGTON

A JUDGE has ordered the BBC to reveal if its tip-off about a raid on Sir Cliff Richard’s home came from the police.

The ruling is another victory for the singer, who is suing the Beeb over its coverage of the incident.

Sir Cliff, 76, pictured, says the affair caused him huge damage.

The August 2014 raid on his home in Sunningdale, Berks, related to a sex abuse allegation which he has always denied. He was later told he would face no charges. Mr Justice Mann ruled at the High Court that the BBC must disclose if the person who told them of the raid worked on Operation Yewtree, a wideranging probe into historical sexual abuse. He said he saw “no real risk” it would cause the source to be identified. Sir Cliff has won large damages from South Yorkshire Police, which conducted the raid.
